Whilst we weren't all 'Born in the USA'; American interior design has become an increasingly popular trend here in the UK with many of us adopting their furniture designs and decorating styles within our own homes.
From Miami to Manhattan, there is a diverse and varied set of interior styles that span the USA; each with their own colour palette and furniture style to suit their surroundings. We have selected 4 of the most popular American interiors that will be sure to amaze and inspire you.
1. Welcome to Miami
Miami beach interiors are all about bringing the outside...inside (and lets be honest who wouldn't want to enjoy THAT view). Glass plays a big role in beach front interiors, not only to make the most of the spectacular ocean views but also to create a sense of space and light where you can relax and enjoy the seaside air. Glass and mirrored furniture goes hand in hand with crisp whites, blues and greens to accentuate the serene and tranquil tones of the exterior spaces.
Fresh florals and palm tree prints work really well on walls and accessories creating a 1980s retro beach interior that is both fresh and fun. Fabrics such as bedding, upholstery and curtains compliment the overall beach front theme and reflect the warm azure tones and lush green hues of the surroundings. This creates a fresh and exotic ambiance that can be carried throughout every room of the house.
2. Made in Manhattan
Manhattan is THE most sophisticated and suburbs in New York city; with so many high flying executives and famous faces taking up residency in this district it is no surprise that Manhattan interiors are some of the most lavish and expensive in the world. Rich golds and sumptuous fabrics take centre stage in Manhattan style interiors creating a boutique city style that is reminiscent of 5 star hotels and penthouse suites. Chandeliers, opulent cushions and rugs are partnered with contemporary glass and mirrored furniture for a splash of city glamour.
Monochrome is a hugely popular colour palette in Manhattan city apartments. With its masculine and sophisticated ambiance it fits perfectly into the businesslike feel of new york interior design. Small and compact interior spaces (that are often the downside of central city living) are complimented with large floor to ceiling windows that open up the living space and make the most of the fantastic city, skyline views.
3. New England
The colonial style of New England homes has become one of the most popular american style interiors over the past few years, its sophisticated country style feel fits perfectly into our own rural settings here in the UK. New England interiors are all about wood; with heavy wall panelling, flooring and natural wood furniture taking centre stage in every room of the home. Rich and warm oaks and dark mahogony and walnut work particularly well in New England homes and create a stately, grandeur that is associated with colonial style interior design.
In more contemporary New England homes, dark woods and rich fabrics have given way to more light and uplifting colour palettes with white and grey wooden panelling and silver and beige fabrics and accessories that complement the high ceilings and spacious dimensions of New England homes. Shaker style kitchens and painted furniture compliments this modern colonial look and creates a chic and crisp interior that oozes traditional charm.
4. Texan Ranch
Take a splash of country and western and mix it with dash of traditional rural charm and you have yourself the perfect Texan style ranch interior. Warm and cosy tones, exposed bricks and open beams create a rustic ambiance that is typical of ranch style interior design. Fur throws, hides and animal themed accessories feature heavily in ranch style interiors and reflect the Texan passion and enjoyment of nature and the outdoors life.
Contemporary ranch interiors have adopted the crisp lines and fresh colour tones of modern interior design whilst retaining the natural wood and stone features of traditional Texan design to create a more open and minimal interior space that maintains its links with the natural landscape.
