While we may not have quite the same weather in the UK as our warmer Mediterranean counterparts, we still enjoy a spot of lunch, dinner or a BBQ when the sun decides to shine! There is nothing more satisfying that slapping on the sunscreen and gathering friends and family for some Al Fresco dining in a stylish and functional outdoor setting. I have put together five of my favourite OUTDOOR DINING ideas for the summer season that are sure to create a relaxed and chic ambiance in even the most compact of outdoor spaces.
Bistro Style
If you have a small outdoor space, balcony or terrace then that doesn’t mean that you have to give up the enjoyment of dining outdoors. Select a small wrought iron or wooden bistro set that will fit snugly into a compact exterior space and is perfect for creating an elegant and chic atmosphere in which to enjoy a romantic meal for two or a relaxed glass of wine after a long and bust day. Team this dining set with some ornate filigree candle holders and feminine rose, clematis and hydrangea floral arrangements to create a French chateau style ambiance that is refined and functional.
Burger Bar
Is your shed sitting neglected and unloved in your garden? Why not transform it into a fully functional burger bar that is perfect for enjoying those summertime BBQs or sports matches with your friends. Firstly you will need to make sure that you have an electricity supply running into your shed (please make sure that you get a professional in to undertake this job) then kit out the inside of your shed with some worktops, cupboards, a fridge, Gas BBQ and a TV for all of your food, drink and entertainment needs. Create a large window opening on the outside of your shed with a table top area and line up some waterproof stools along the edge where you can serve food, beer and cocktails to your guests.
Moroccan
If you love the relaxed and laid back style of Moroccan dining then why not recreate the look in your own garden with a stylish selection of eastern inspired furniture that will create a fun and functional space in which to dine. Select a low level square or rectangular table in natural oak or walnut or a metal table with mosaic tile detailing for a splash or vibrant colour. Next take a selection of large outdoor cushions, bean bags or pouffes upholstered in Moroccan style fabrics (preferably waterproof) and scatter along the ground for an elegant and textural floor seating area where you can enjoy outdoor snacks, dips and finger food. Decorate the space with Moroccan lanterns and palm trees for an authentic look and feel.
British Picnic
There is nothing we Brits like more than a classic summertime picnic with a selection of delicious homemade sandwiches and nibbles. If you don’t fancy rolling out the picnic mat every time the sun peaks out then why not create a traditional picnic bench seating area in your garden that will create a quintessential British summertime feel in your chosen space. Select a long natural or reclaimed wood table with built in benches that can be left natural or stained to match your fencing or decking. Add a selection of pillar or tea light candles and wildflower arrangements along the table top or add a plastic floral table cover for added colour and pattern. Decorate the space with bunting and fairy lights for a fun and stylish finish.
City Cafe
If you have a lot of brick or metal features in your garden then tie them into your dining area by creating a city cafe look that combines relaxed natural elements and modern industrial style. Select a large wooden dining table and add a select of bold painted, metal chairs in red, blue or green for a contrast in materials and colour. Add a selection of cafetieres, mugs and stylish chrome cutlery to your table and add a classic plain or striped parasol for the sunnier days of the year. If you want to update some plain walls or fencing then display a selection of cafe themed outdoor canvases featuring coffee mugs, cafe images or slogans for a sleek and chic design.
