Summer wedding season is finally upon us and if your calendar is full of dates of your friends and families nuptials then you are sure to have a busy few weeks of dress and suit shopping in preparation for the event. If you’re planning your very own big day, there are a lot of things to think about in the lead up to the final event. Flowers, table settings, colour schemes and location as well as guest lists, photographers and caterers to name but a few. Choosing a theme for your big day can be a confusing and drawn out task, so we have made life a little easier by rounding up five of the best summer wedding themes that are sure to create a luxurious and elegant look on your special day.
Tropical
This wedding theme is perfect for those who are opting to get married abroad or simply wish to bring a little fun and colour into their traditional wedding setting. Select bold and striking colours such as turquoise, orange, lime green and fuchsia pink and use against crisp white for an eye-catching finish. Flowers should include orchids and lilies and can be accentuated with palm and banana leaf fronds for a vibrant tropical feel. Set up a cocktail station where your guests can indulge in their favourite tipple, served in a hollowed out coconut or pineapple. Opt for rattan style seating with colourful cushions and if your reception location will allow it set up some day beds and hammocks for your guests to relax. Include a crazy limbo session at your evening disco and set up a photo booth with a selection of tropical themed accessories.
Coral
Coral is the perfect colour choice for a summer wedding as it provides a hint of tropical colour whilst retaining a soft and dusky undertone. Coral and white look perfect together and can be complimented by ombre tones such as peach, pastel pink and nude for a varied yet subtle appearance. Opt for bouquets and floral arrangements that include coral, pink and white roses, poppies, hydrangea and lilies and add sprigs of blossom or diamantes for a little bit of glamour. For an elegant finish accent your chairs with large oversized coral bows and use gold as a complimentary colour on your place settings, cutlery, candle holders and lanterns for an added air of luxury. Gold and coral pearlised or metallic balloons will look great displayed in clusters around your reception area and create a splash of colour at each table or around the dance floor area.
Mint
Mint green is always a great choice for summer weddings as it gives a light and fresh ambiance that works particularly well for coastal or beach front settings. Fresh mint and white are a classic combination while soft cream, coral and peach will add a visual contrast against the cool green tones. Honeysuckle foliage and a selection of Queen Ann’s Lace and gypsophila will add softness and femininity to both your bouquet and floral centrepieces. Table settings can include an array of coastal themed items such as white painted storm lanterns filled with sand and white and mint candles as well as large shells and weather wood baskets with matching floral arrangements. For a quirky addition to your reception area then add some mint and white striped deckchairs and a bucket of flip flops to avoid any sore feet during the many hours of dancing.
Lemon
A lemon colour scheme at your wedding will invoke a bright and sunshiny feel that is great for creating a warm and welcoming ambiance even if the British weather doesn’t quite hold out. Lemon works well alongside pastel blues and pinks and soft green for a quintessential English garden look. Flowers should include classic roses, daisies, hydrangeas and wild flowers in soft lemon, white and blue for a contrasting yet complimentary finish. Tie bouquets with classic white lace or white satin bows for a classically elegant design. For a botanical, garden inspired design then opt for classic vintage pots and tins with small floral arrangements or use large jugs and watering cans as centrepieces with lemon, white and pastel flowers that cascade down the sides to give a wild and naturally growing appearance. For a more Mediterranean feel then place a selection of sliced lemons around the inside of a clear glass vase and fill with clear crystals and white candles for a bright and illuminating look. Follow your meals with a small shot of limoncello that is in keeping with the theme of the day.
Glamour
There is no better time to show off some opulent glitz and glamour than your wedding day! It is the one day you get to be the centre of attention and create a luxurious environment that will leave you and your guests feeling like a million dollars. Soft peach and blush tones work great in creating a dash of subtle colour and can be paired with glistening rose gold accent tones for the ultimate in rich opulence. Select simple and elegant bouquets of small white roses and larger arrangements of white orchids or hydrangeas in sleek and chic shapes and vases. Add sprigs of sprayed gold foliage and diamantes and tie with black or gold bows for refined look and finish. Use rose gold table settings to compliment this look and use a selection of glittered and gilded champagne glasses for added sparkle. For added Hollywood glamour set up your very own red carpet where your guests can get ‘papped’ and place life sized gold Oscar balloons around the dance floor for an awards evening style event.
