Vintage Kitchen Accessories have become hugely popular over the past year with more and more people choosing to go back to traditional farmhouse designs or retro style diners that bring charm and character into the home. Many antique stores, charity shops and auctions stock period and vintage style accessories that will add the finishing touch to the home, or if you’re on a budget you can pick up replica styles on the high street that will give the same authentic look without the need to break the bank. I have selected 5 of my favourite accessories that will look amazing in a wide range of interior styles.
Scales
A staple piece in any kitchen area, the classic weighing scales provides a functional and aesthetically pleasing purpose in traditional and modern kitchen interiors. If you love a warm and cosy farmhouse look then a simple antique metal, plate top scale (left) will look great displayed on a table top next to some rustic jars and utensils. If you prefer a more quirky look then choose an apothecary style balance scales in a silver or copper finish that will look wonderful displayed on a shelf or windowsill area.
Storage Containers
Every kitchen needs storage for all of your cooking ingredients and utensils and they are also a great way of adding character and colour to your worktop areas. I love these retro style Bakelite containers (right) that come in an array of gorgeous pastel tones. Display them along your kitchen or a wall shelf for optimum visual detail. You can find replicas of these classic designs in many high street stores as well as cute and kitsch shabby chic style designs that embrace a similar colour scheme and can fit comfortably into a modern kitchen interior.
Mixing Bowls
If you’re a keen baker or an amateur chef then you will know that you can never have enough mixing and batter bowls in your kitchen interior. These rustic style ceramic bowls come in gorgeous earthen cream and egg shell tones that work extremely well in wooden farmhouse kitchens for a rural and homely charm. These bowls look great stacked on a traditional welsh dresser or on a vintage style wall mounted shelf alongside period style milk jugs, egg baskets and crockery. For a mix and match of kitchen styles then place a stack of these country style mixing bowls in varying sizes next to a retro pastel and chrome mixer to create a focal point along your worktop area.
Crockery
These days we tend to hide away our plates, cups and glasses in a cupboard however vintage style crockery is so detailed and ornate in design that it definitely needs to be shown off in all its glory. Gorgeous Wedgewood style blue and white crockery looks great displayed in a classic white dresser and fits wonderfully into period and modern style kitchen areas. Vintage style crockery in pretty floral and pastel designs will take pride of place in a shabby chic style dresser or a wall mounted plate holder with cup hangers that will create a focal point on a plain painted feature wall.
Kitchen Clocks
No one likes a soggy bottom or burnt buns, so a reliable and stylish clock is a must have accessory in any kitchen area. This gorgeous vintage Bakelite wall clock (left) will make a great feature in a classic 1950s style kitchen diner and its gorgeous minty colour tone will create a fresh and uplifting feel within your home. For a more rustic, country cottage style look then select a large wooden wall clock with wheat or farming imagery or for a bit of quirky vintage fun choose a cow, chicken or pig shaped design that looks great in farmhouse and modern home interiors.
