The festive season is fast approaching but before that we have Halloween, Bonfire Night and Thanksgiving (for our friends over the pond). Why not celebrate these occasions with a fabulous dinner party that can be themed to your required event and your guest list. From fun and spooky Halloween lunches to chic and sophisticated Christmas themes, a dinner party is the perfect way to have fun and celebrate with friends and family.
Halloween is a great time of year to enjoy a family friendly dinner party with oodles of fun for all ages. Opt for a spooky table cloth in plain black, red or skull and pumpkin print for a funky but not too scary finish. Add a large carved pumpkin as your centrepiece or for a creepy (adult themed) look then opt for a skull, severed hand or head or a coffin shaped vase that can be adorned with wilted flowers and dead foliage for added eeriness. Choose black, red and orange crockery and add some vintage candelabras with red and black candles to give an Adams Family style feel to your dining area.
Bonfire night is a colourful celebration that gives a warm and autumnal feel to the cold and dark nights. A bonfire style dinner party is the perfect way to warm up and celebrate with friends and family particularly if you have been standing out in the cold watching the fireworks. Opt for a rich burnt orange or burgundy table cloth and accentuate with gold or copper crockery and cutlery that recreates the warmth of the bonfire itself. As a table setting paint some small pumpkins and gourds with cream and glitter paints or add a large floral display with plumes of orange, red and brown flowers and foliage. For a natural finishing touch tie the napkins with some rustic twine and add a twig or leaf to bring a sense of the outdoors indoors.
I love Christmas and it is one of the few times during the year that whole families come together to celebrate. Whether it’s Christmas, eve, Christmas day or boxing day a festive Christmas dinner party is a must have feature of the season. Opt for traditional red, gold or green table cloths or a patterned snowman or Santa print to make it extra fun for the kids. Decorate the table with a large glass bowl full of multicoloured baubles and fairy lights or a large reindeer centrepiece for a more sophisticated finish. Add gold or glitter crockery featuring an elegant snowflake design and include some sparkly wine glasses and tumblers for a splash of festive fizz. And of course, last but not least you must not forget some crackers; where else would you get your silly and compulsory paper hat? Choose family friendly crackers for the kids or more luxury branded items for an all adult dinner party.
