Hands up who was bobbing for apples last weekend? Yes that age old traditional that most of us try (and fail) at Halloween gives us plenty of giggles at this time of year but while many opt for rich and orange colour schemes during the autumn season there is one colour that often gets overlooked – delicious APPLE GREEN. This fresh colour scheme is a great way of adding a pop of colour to an autumn/winter home and looks fabulous in a wide range of home interiors.
Colour Palettes
Apple Green is a juicy colour tone that works wonderful alongside a vast array of co-ordinating and contrasting hues. For a fruity palette then select apple green, peach, yellow and mint to give a botanical garden inspired look that works particularly well in conservatory or living room interiors. For a more bright and feminine design then partner your chosen apple green shade with rich cream and pastel or raspberry pink to give a sumptuous colour palette that looks great in a bedroom interior. For a more refined and classic design then place apple green alongside dove white, grey and black or navy for a masculine design with a pop of colour that is sharp and distinctive.
Cushions
Colourful cushions look great on a plain sofa area and will create a burst of colour in an otherwise neutral space. Colourful shades of apple green, peach, pink and yellow look fabulous with floral patterns and prints and can be placed alongside plain cream and white cushions for a variation in tone. For a more autumnal look and feel then display a selection of apple green cushions that feature a classic leaf print design alongside soft tartan and plaid prints in co-ordinating colours. If you prefer a more modern or retro design then select geometric prints such as stripes, chevrons and repeating patterns in crisp white, green and navy for a chic and sophisticated visual focal point.
Upholstery
Many people shy away from colourful upholstery in favour of more traditional neutral palettes however coloured fabrics are a great way of adding an accent tone to your current home interior and create a zoned area of colour within your chosen room. The freshness of this green hue means that it can be partnered with a wide variety of frames and styles depending on your personal tastes. For a classic look then upholster your traditional oak dining chairs with some apple green linen fabric to give a country orchard style to your dining area. For a more period style design then select a white painted French style occasional chair and upholster with an apple green velvet material for a bright yet glamorous finish. If contemporary interior design is more your style then select some sleek chrome or clear Perspex seats and stools and upholster in a simple plain green cotton fabric or a geometric print material for a stylish and striking design.
Accessories
Apple green accessories will look fabulous against both bold and neutral backdrops to give a fresh and colourful focal point within your room. Vases, ornaments and photo frames will look great along a sideboard or mantelpiece and can be mixed and matched with white accessories for a bright and uplifting look or dark black or grey for a more sleek and sophisticated style. Why not utilise the gorgeous apples themselves by creating a table centrepiece or a side table display using tall glass vases filled with crisp green apples and topped with a co-ordinating faux flower bloom such as a hydrangea or orchid. You could also disperse some conkers among the apples and tie a burlap or twine bow around the vase for a cosy autumnal finish.
Furniture
The beauty of a fresh apple green colour scheme is that it can be partnered with a wide variety of furniture styles and materials. For a classic country cottage look then select chunky oak furniture with a hint of farmhouse charm that will give a cosy and traditional feel to your home interior. For a more bright and feminine feel then opt for white or cream painted furniture items that will compliment the light and fresh tones of the apple green backdrop. If you wish to create a more dramatic and stylish interior look, select rich black painted items such as classic dressers, bed frames and dining tables that will create a striking focal point in both modern and traditional homes.
