Soft and dusky colour palettes and chalky colour tones are a popular trend for 2015 and sophisticated and glamorous CHARCOAL colour palettes are a versatile option that can be paired with a wide range of neutral and colourful tones and hues.
This chic colour trend will look fabulous in any living room, dining room or bedroom area and can be styled in a classic period style as well as a crisp, contemporary design that further supports its popularity as one of the highest selling colour tones of the past 12 months.
Colour Palettes
The most common partner for sumptuous charcoal colour tones is deep black, crisp white and dove grey that sits within the same spectrum of colours and provides a complimentary and contrasting finish that is refined and opulent. This classic partnership looks fabulous in both modern and traditional home designs. Charcoal hues also look amazing alongside another of this year’s favourite colour trends – yellow. From bold neon to muted mustard; yellow colour tones will give a pop of colour against this deep and sumptuous colour palette. Rich red, blue, purple and lime will also create a fantastic mix of flamboyant colour and elegant refinement that can be further accentuated with pops of silver and pewter metallic tones.
Cushions
Both neutral and dark upholstered seating areas can be complimented and highlighted using a selection of charcoal cushions and bolsters that will create a deep and sophisticated finish that is both stylish and cosy. Plain chenille, velvet and satin cushions look great in this dusky colour tone and can be partnered with antique white, pale grey and cream cushions for a co-ordinating arrangement of light and dark colour tones. Bold charcoal and white geometric patterned cushions with pops of yellow or electric blue will create a contemporary seating area that is bold and eye-catching and will take centre stage within the home. For a splash of glamour add a few metallic silver designs and embellishments of sequins, beads and tassels for a flamboyant and expensive visual appeal.
Bedding
The beauty of charcoal colour palettes are their ability to create glamorous and elegant interior designs as well as rugged and rustic looks that would not look out of place in a farmhouse cottage or barn conversion. When it comes to selecting bedding your design can be approached from both ends of this scale depending on your overall tastes and interior look. For an opulent, palatial feel then select satin and embroidered fabrics in metallic charcoal tones or classic rococo patterned designs. Combine these with a selection of black and light grey sheets and glittered cushions for a dark and romantic focal point within your bedroom space. For a more contemporary industrial look then select simple cotton and linen fabrics in charcoal and beige and layer your darker throws and cushions with lighter more rustic fabrics for a sleek and minimal look that is both masculine and chic.
Accessories
Charcoal coloured accessories can be used to add drama to a neutral or plain interior area or to compliment the already dusky tones of your chosen interior palette. Charcoal vases, bowls and ornaments will look fabulous along a crisp white painted mantelpiece to contrast yet compliment the refined backdrop and create an accent colour that can flow through the remainder or your accessories and fabrics. Deep charcoal placemats and coasters combined with black crockery and glassware will create a rich and opulent table setting that will wow your dinner guests and visitors. A central floral arrangement of white, silver and black flowers will further accentuate your dining area and create a focal point within the home. If you have opted for a deep charcoal backdrop then crisp white accessories or bold colourful items will break up the intensity of the colour and create a bright and uplifting ambiance in which to relax.
Furniture
If you have concentrated your charcoal colour palette to your walls and floor then there are three options you could take when choosing furniture that will compliment the overall look of the home. Your first option is to select furniture in complimentary colour tones such as grey and black to create a rich and opulent interior that is deep and glamorous. Choose specific statement items such as a large dresser, sideboard or dining table to avoid your room becoming too dark and don’t be scared to mix and match lighter charcoal tones with matt black for a sleek yet visually detailed finish. Secondly you can choose to contrast the deep nature of charcoal with some crisp white painted furniture items that will create an uplifting and illuminating ambiance with the perfect balance of masculine and feminine design. Thirdly, for a more classic look then furnish your interior with light oak items that will create a timeless appeal that is both traditional and modern.
