This time of year the weather outside can be drab and dreary and that can often translate into our homes with more muted and ‘wintery’ colour palettes. However this season why not throw caution to the wind and inject some colour and uplifting warmth to your interior space with a rich and tonal SAFFRON colour scheme. This spicy colour is a sumptuous yellow/orange hue that will look fabulous in a wide variety of interior styles and decors.
Colour Palette
This spice inspired colour tone looks great alongside complimentary hues such as pumpkin, burnt orange and lemon to give a fresh yet warming interior feel. Saffron, taupe, beige and sand give a rich tundra inspired look that is naturally elegant. For a more dramatic yet sophisticated combination of colours then place saffron alongside rich grey, pistachio and plum for a hint of dramatic colour that works well in living room and dining room interiors. If you love a splash of colour in your interior spaces then select bold and vibrant saffron, purple, lime and tomato red that give a bold Mediterranean inspired feel to your chosen space.
Cushions
Saffron makes a fabulous accent tone in both neutral and bold interior spaces and is a great colour choice for your cushions as they are a simple way to add tone and print to your home without the need for complete redecoration. This spicy hue works particularly well with classic Moroccan and Middle Eastern patterns and designs and can be displayed in cool and calm saffron and white or bold multicoloured designs for added visual detail. Place alongside plain saffron, velvet cushions with added tassels and beading for a luxurious and palatial finish. This colour also works well with retro geometric patterns and styles to give a funkier, retro twist to your home interior.
Upholstery
Coloured upholstery is a great way of creating a zoned area of colour or pattern in your chosen room and spicy colour tones are one of the hottest trends to adopt in 2016. A simple saffron coloured velvet or leather fabric will look great on a vintage or retro armchair or sofa and will look amazing nestled in the corner of the room for a relaxing space to kick back and relax. For a more dramatic visual impact then select intricate and eye catching Moroccan inspired patterns that feature a selection of saffron, blue, purple and red tones that can be partnered with natural oak or white painted frames and accents for a striking and colourful finish.
Accessories
If you are looking to create a visual impact in your chosen room then coloured accessories are a perfect choice for you. Saffron yellow was a hugely popular colour choice in the 1970s and this decade is making a huge comeback in the interior design world this year. Opt for a selection of vintage or retro inspired accessories such as vases, telephones and kitchen utensils in bold saffron that will look great against a neutral beige or mocha backdrop. For a more exotic look and feel then opt for Middle Eastern patterns in saffron, blue and red and display on coasters, placemats and bowls for an injection of warmth and colour.
Furniture
Spicy colour tones such as saffron can be complimented by a wide variety of furniture styles, colours and designs making it the perfect choice for both contemporary and classic homes. For a cosy and natural finish then opt for golden oak items with a textural grain or deeper and more striking walnut and mahogany that will give a hint of Mediterranean style to your chosen interior space. If you prefer a softer and more delicate appearance then soft white and rich cream painted items with oak accents will give a cosy yet uplifting feel that works well in living room and bedroom areas. For a more retro or masculine look then select deep black painted items with gold metallic accents that are sure to create a focal point within your home.
