Dark and Bright

Sometimes we shy away from using dark or bold colour schemes in our home interiors through fear of overpowering our rooms. While neutral colour palettes do provide a sense of space and light in smaller rooms sometimes a more statement colour palette is needed to inject some life into an otherwise plain interior. The DARK and BRIGHT interior trend is designed to drink together deep and rich colours and materials and bold and bright accessories, wallpaper and furniture to create a mix and match of finishes that are eye-catching and stylish.
When selecting your colour combination for your walls it is usually best to keep brighter colours to your main walls and the darker hue to one large feature wall, chimney breast or alcove. Opt for opposing but complimentary hues such as black and pink, grey and blue and chocolate and yellow that will look great alongside each other for a bold and striking finish. If you prefer to keep the bold and bright colours to your soft furnishings and accessories then stick to a simple white backdrop in which to show them off.
Include a range of soft furnishings that are a mix and match of deep and bold colour palettes. A scattering of cushions in alternating colours such as black, red, grey, blue and green will look great on a plain upholstered seating area or bed set. Add a bold coloured rug to a dark wood floor for a contrast in both colour, finish and texture. For a more striking and bold design then opt for some curtains, a throw, bedding or cushions that feature stripes, geometric patterns or floral designs in clashing dark and bright colours that will create a focal point within your chosen space. You can even include some abstract wall art on a plain painted wall featuring a combination of dark and bold shapes and patterns for a stylish modern finish.
If you are not up for a complete redecoration of your room then a change of furniture could be te perfect way to work this trend into your current décor. For a sleek and contemporary look you could select a combination of black, grey and bright coloured high gloss furniture that will create a sophisticated and streamlined look within the home. If your feeling creative and love trying your hand at some up-cycling then why not take some old items of wooden furniture such as a dining set and paint with some bold and dark colour choices that will create a real focal pint within the room. For example you could try painting your dining table matt black and then adding some bright pink blue or lime green chairs in a single or mixed colour set. Alternatively paint a chest of drawers or sideboard in a bright colour across the main body of the chest and add some dark painted drawer and door fronts for a striking visual contrast.
