This season is all about faking it! Faux finishes are a great way of creating a chic designer finish without the high end price tag. From wallpapers and tiles to flooring and soft furnishings and accessories these materials will fool even the most stylish interior investigators.
Wood
Wood is one of the easiest materials to fake in the home as there are such a wide range of copycat items available across the high street. Wood effect wallpaper is a great way of adding some rustic charm to your chosen room; opt for warm earthen tones for a country style look or soft greys for a more Nordic inspired design. Laminate flooring is a great alternative to solid wood floors as they are significantly cheaper, simple to lay and easy to maintain. Rich mahogany coloured styles will look great in period style interiors while rich oak effect designs will create a cosy and homely feel in your interior space.
Brick
If you’re not keen on the idea of hacking off your walls to expose the bare bricks then luckily there are simpler alternatives to achieve this rustic or industrial style look. Brick patterned wallpapers are great for creating a visual focal point in your chosen room and look perfect with cosy cream paintwork or rich chocolate and mocha hues for a rich and stylish finish. For a more textural feature on a chimney breast or feature wall then opt for brick effect tiles to give a 3D effect within the room.
Metal
Metal is an easy material to replicate as many plastics and acrylics can be given a metallic finish that exactly matches a wide variety of gold, silver, bronze and copper metals. For a Victorian style fire surround then opt for a PVC moulded design with a dark bronze or gunmetal coloured finish that will look great with co-ordinating Victorian or Edwardian tiles. Metallic wallpapers are great at creating a shimmering and stylish finish in the home and can be co-ordinated with copper, rose gold or silver effect accessories to tie the look together.
Fur
Faux fur has become an increasingly popular choice for home interiors as we have become more and more aware of animal cruelty and conservation. Faux fur is now almost indistinguishable from its real counterpart and comes in a wide variety of colours and tones to suit your chosen interior theme. For a soft Nordic inspired design then select some soft grey wolf style furs that will create fresh yet warming look across your cushions, throws and rugs. If you prefer a more rustic style of interior then opt for cosy cream and fox coloured furs that will compliment a wide variety of neutral spaces.
Marble
Solid marble can be an extremely pricey choice for decorating your home interior with a simple marble fire plinth often costing a few hundred pounds. Plastics can now be designed to mimic the swirling patterns of marble and look great on candleholders, frames and mirrors to give a chic and classic finish. Marble effect wallpapers can create a subtle yet stylish finish in a wide variety of rooms while marble effect floor tiles or linoleum flooring will look fabulous in kitchens, hallways and bathrooms.
