This February is all about FRINGING! This tasselled adornment has taken the catwalks by storm with many designers choosing skirts, bags and jackets with this decorative finish and it is now translating into interior design for a bohemian, vintage or ranch inspired look that creates texture and movement within your chosen interior space.
Bohemian
Bohemian interiors are still as popular as ever as they create a laid back and relaxed interior feel that is chic and stylish. Fringing makes a great feature in a bohemian style living room by adding a selection of fringed and tasselled cushions to a sofa or armchair featuring tribal inspired prints and patterns or Moroccan inspired designs with bold and bright colours and beaded embellishments. You can also include some fringed curtains on a window or door way that will create shadow and movement at different times of the day. These can be layered with beaded curtains for a vintage bohemian feel. If you wish to create a focal point within your interior space then why not hang a fringed rug or tapestry on a main feature wall, chimney breast or above your bed for a striking visual feature within the room.
Ranch
If you love the rustic cowboy inspired look that comes with a ranch style interior design then fringing is the perfect embellishment that will create warmth and cosiness within your chosen room. Opt for a selection of suede and leather fringed cushions in tan and chocolate colour schemes and team with faux hide designs in cattle print patterns to create a focal point on a sofa, chair or bed. For a striking dining room interior then you can select some suede or leather dining chairs with fringed edging or back rests and metal rivets that will look wonderful teamed with a large rectangular chunky oak dining table. Decorate a window or patio door with suede fringed curtains in neutral and earthen colour tones such as brown, taupe or burnt orange and secure with some faux antler tie backs for a truly rugged finish.
Vintage
Vintage interiors are great for creating a variation in finishes and textures within your interior space. A large fringed rug with a vintage or period style pattern will look great in a living room, bedroom, dining room or hallway and can be mixed and matched with some knitted or crocheted cushions and a fringed pouffee for a cosy and colourful finish. If you wish to create a focal point on a bedside table, side table or sideboard then opt for a vintage brass or silver lamp base and complete with a fringed or tasselled lamp shade in soft pastel colours for a chic and feminine finish. Why not team this style of lamp with a co-ordinating fringed ceiling pendant or some fringed wall lights that will look great on a plain feature wall or placed centrally within an alcove area.
