Holiday Inspired Interiors

There is nothing quite like the laid back and relaxed feel we get when we are on holiday. From hot and tropical locations to traditional summer caravan trips, travel and adventures play a massive part in our lives and invoke a fun and sunshiny feel in our soul. This season why not celebrate that feeling by creating a holiday inspired home interior that represents your favourite holiday destinations, travel memorabilia and summer getaways.

Creating an interior theme that is influenced by your favourite holiday destination is a great way of stirring the feeling and emotions that we feel when we visit a certain place. If you love the golden sands and azure seas of tropical beach destinations then create a sunshine colour scheme of white turquoise and yellow and include accessories and mementos of your trips such as surf boards, ornaments or photographs to create a personalised finish. British seaside holidays can be captured using a selection of crisp white, blue and navy and include striped print fabrics, nautical inspired accessories and whitewashed furniture for a cool and laid back look. For a more Mediterranean feel then select almond, honey and terracotta colour tones and pair with natural oak furniture or reclaimed chunky items for a cosy country villa feel.Moroccan inspired home decor is always popular in the interior design world and is a great way of introducing colour and pattern into a neutral interior space. Select bright jewelled tones such as amethyst, turquoise, fuchsia and emerald green and highlight with glistening gold metallic hues for added opulence and luxury. Add a selection of embroidered cushions, tasselled and beaded curtains and a display of ornate perfume bottles and lanterns for a vibrant yet laid back feel. For extra authenticity create an area of floor cushions in a bedroom or conservatory area where you can curl up with a nice glass of wine or a good book.

If you are an avid traveller then you may have amassed quite a large collection of suitcases during your many trips. Instead of throwing out your older design why not recycle them by turning them into clever storage and furniture items each with their own story to tell. Traditional, vintage style suitcases look great painted and stacked together to create a unique bedside or lamp table for a quirky interior style feature. Alternatively mount hard cased luggage to a feature wall for use as floating shelving where you can display your holiday memorabilia, souvenirs and photographs.

For an eye-catching take on the gallery wall trend then place a world map mural, satellite image or map style wall sticker on your feature wall and place a photo of yourself or your family and friends in each of the countries that you have visited. You can hang the pictures in co-ordinating or mix and match frames directly over the country (if your mural is large) or place them around the edge and connect them to the area with twine or ribbon. If you have lots of tickets, boarding cards or postcards from your holiday adventures then create a collage on a large framed board or canvas as a great alternative to a traditional piece of wall art.
