How to Create a Beauty and The Beast Inspired Home

It is a ‘Tale as Old as Time’ and Beauty and The Beast is as popular now as ever, with a brand new live action movie set for release in 2017. This classic tale strikes a chord with the romantic in all of use; an intellectual and feisty woman falls in love with the hideous beast as she can see the goodness that lies beneath his appearance. With magical furniture, a stunning castle setting and a rich and palatial ambiance let’s take a look at how you can create your very own Beauty and The Beast inspired home with these simple yet stylish ideas.

Roses

This romantic flower plays an integral role in the story of Belle and the Beast. When the arrogant prince turns down a beggar’s offer of a single red rose she (really a witch) turns him into a Beast. She gives him back the rose and tells him that it will bloom until his 21st year and to break her spell he must fall in love and earn that person’s love in return before the last petal falls. Roses are a popular design feature in the interior design world and can be easily incorporated into your home with a selection of rose print cushions, curtains or photo frames or for an authentic nod to the Disney story then display a single artificial rose in a glass dome with a scattering of petals around the base that will make a great feature on a side table or bedside.

Crockery

We all have our favourite Disney characters and mine has to be Mrs Potts and Chip the elegant tea pot and cup that are in fact the Princes kitchen staff that have been transformed under the witch’s enchantment. You can purchase authentic Disney tea sets that include these characters in full detail however if you wish to pay a more subtle nod to these characters then select vintage and period style crockery items in porcelain and pastel colour tones with either a classic rose design or a hint of gold gilded edging. Lay a dining table with a lace or floral table cloth and display your crockery alongside silver cutlery and gold napkins or place in a Parisian style dresser to create a focal point in your chosen room.

Chandeliers

We all remember that beautiful scene when Belle and the Beast dance in the ballroom under a large and glittering chandelier. They are the epitome of glamour and sophistication and make a fabulous focal point in any hallway, living room, dining room or bedroom. Opt for a large silver or gold French style chandelier embellished with a plethora of crystals in droplet formation that will create a glimmering light around the room. For a more ‘fairytale’ twist on this traditional look then opt for a crystal chandelier with teacup detailing that will pay homage to the scene where the cutlery and plates dance around the ceiling.

Dramatic Fabrics

The opulent backdrop of the Beast’s castle can be recreated in your own home by carefully selecting rich and luxurious fabrics and upholstery that will emulate the look and colours of the film. An obvious choice is the glistening yellow/gold tones of Belle’s famous ball gown that will look fabulous on bedding, curtains and throws to give a splash of glamour to a bedroom interior. You can also select striking royal blue and navy velvet fabrics and use to upholster a statement occasional chair chaise lounge or headboard to represent the regal suit worn by the beast when he is dancing with Belle. These colours can be used individually or together for a more dramatic appearance.

Candlesticks and Clocks

We all love the sassy charm of Lumière the candelabra and Cogsworth the pendulum clock whose humorous rivalry and common aim to bring the Beast and Belle together play an integral part in the story. Create a statement mantelpiece with a traditional mahogany pendulum clock in the centre and two gold gilded, three arm candelabras either side for a classically elegant focal point. These candelabras also look great as a centrepiece for a romantic table setting. For a true statement item then purchase a traditional pendulum grandfather clock that will look fabulous in the corner of the room or nestled in a narrow alcove area.

Furniture

The must have furniture item to reflect the story of Beauty and The Beast is of course a classic and ornate French Armoire. In the Disney story "Madame Armoire" is an opera singer who has been transformed into a wardrobe by the witch’s spell. Opt for a ornately carved wardrobe with a crisp white or gold leaf exterior finish for a splash of glamour and opulence or for a more traditional look then select a hand painted item in a French renaissance or floral style featuring soft creams and pastel tones for a delicate and feminine feel.
