How to Create a Honeycomb Interior

Geometric patterns and prints are a great way of adding colour and visual texture to your home and this season is all about bold HONEYCOMB designs that make a great feature across all decors and accessories. These interlinking hexagonal prints can be used to create a vibrant contemporary or retro design or a chic and glamorous interior with an element of abstract boutique flair.

Bold printed wallpapers and geometric tiles make a fabulous feature in both large and small interior spaces and are a great way of creating a focal point within your chosen room. Opt for large hexagonal wallpaper designs in primary colours for a modern and funky statement wall or select hexagon shaped wall stickers for a customised or abstract design. A simple black and white wallpaper featuring smaller honeycomb patterns will look great in a chic living room, dining room or bedroom and can be accented with silver and gold for a sleek and feminine appearance. Large honeycomb tiles will look fabulous in charcoal and pewter colour palettes and can be used to create a feature above a bath or shower area.

Patterned cushions are as popular as ever and can be used to introduce a single pattern or colour to an otherwise neutral space. If you wish to create a ‘colour pop’ in a minimal living room or bedroom then select crisp white cushions with bold neon honeycomb patterns that are bright and summery. For a more retro look then opt for cream and beige linen cushions with brown, yellow and orange honeycomb designs that can be displayed alongside striped, grid and swirl designs for a psychedelic finish. For a more sophisticated look then select monochrome cushions with gold and bronze accents for a luxurious and opulent look.

Statement light fittings will create a centrepiece within your home interior and are a great way of tying together a theme or pattern within your chosen room. Select cylindrical or oval light shades in opaque glass with a black or dark brown hexagonal outline for an intricate yet neutral design.  Lit with a warm orange bulb these lights will reflect the colour and shape of a traditional natural honeycomb. Alternatively select glistening gold light shades with hexagonal filigree shapes that can be hung in a single or sculptural group above a bed, dining table or sofa for a unique artistic finish.

Upholstery is a great way of showcasing a new colour or print and it can be co-ordinated with your wallpaper and soft furnishings for a stylish and elegant finish. A simple retro sofa or egg chair will look fabulous with a bright neon or pastel honeycomb design with a plain white backdrop for a pop of vibrancy and illumination. For a more subtle finish then select a period or French style chair or chaise lounge and upholster with a refined monochrome or gold and cream coloured hexagonal fabric. Honeycomb designs also look great in a children’s bedroom or playroom and can be displayed in bright primary colours on bedding, headboards and curtains or in classic brown, black and yellow with bee themed soft toys and wall stickers for a nature inspired interior theme.

If you love innovative and quirky furniture designs then honeycomb patterns and shapes make a great foundation for a wide variety of furniture items.  Wall mounted shelving and bookcases look great with a hive of honeycomb shapes that can be filled with your favourite books, ornaments and collectables and look fabulous on a plain white or bold painted feature wall. Honeycomb shaped stools and seats also make a wonderful sculptural focal point and can be displayed as a statement occasional chair in a bedroom or living room or as a set of dining chairs for a fun and modern design. Side tables and coffee tables with a gorgeous metallic chrome or gold honeycomb base will look great in a boutique style living room area and provide a stylish yet practical finish to your home.
