This season is all about summery colour palettes and laid back tropical vibes, so what better way to celebrate than with a fun and fabulous selection of Parrot inspired interior design ideas. With its gorgeous coloured plumage and retro style glamour it is easy to see why this eye-catching bird is making a comeback in modern and contemporary homes. Don’t forget that parrot print interiors do not all have to look like a pirate island or a 1980s cocktail bar (unless that’s your thing); this design can be incorporated into more chic and glamorous interiors for a more subtle take on this flamboyant trend.
Animal design wallpapers are one of the biggest trends this year and bird imagery is a popular choice in both traditional and contemporary interiors. For a classic Copacabana inspired design then select large palm frond motifs in deep rainforest green with classic bold coloured parrots in blue, red and yellow for a fun retro look. A subtle garden inspired design can be achieved with a plain white backdrop with delicate branch like patterns and small parrot prints in lighter botanical pastel tones.
If you love a sense of modern period style drama then you will love this fabulous Nina Campbell wallpaper (right) with its deep black background and artistic urns and parakeets that are accentuated with a handful of butterflies for another hit on this season’s animal trend.
If you love to imagine you have slipped off into a tropical beach side getaway then a set of parrot print bedding will add a splash of holiday flair to any bedroom interior. I am in love with this fabulous parrot bedding set from Debenhams (left) that has just the right amount of bold colour and detailing whilst keeping your interior looking fresh and uplifting with its crisp white backdrop. Add classic feminine tones such as baby blue, pastel pink or mint to your walls for a period style elegance or give your room a blast of tropical zest with a palm green, turquoise or fuchsia feature wall for a bright and contemporary design with a hint of retro charm.
Why not brighten up your bedroom or seating area with a scattering of parrot design cushions that will add colour and visual detail to even the plainest of interior settings. If you have a modern or minimal home interior then opt for abstract or photographic parrot images in bold and vibrant colours such as turquoise, red, green and neon yellow or partner these with palm print and cocktail designed cushions for a classic 1980s ambiance.
If you prefer a more serene and subtle look then create a vintage garden inspired look with classic colours such as mint, sage and magenta and use more artistic ‘painted’ parrot images that can be combined with floral and plain white cushions for a fresh botanical feel.
When it comes to accessorising your home you really are spoilt for choice when it comes to finding parrot inspired items and ornaments. This elegant lamp base (right) will look great in both minimal and period style interiors as its refined design and neutral colour can be partnered with a wide range of shades to match your chosen decor. If a funky retro theme is more your style then the crazier the better! Opt for colourful parrot ornaments, bowls and bottle holders as well as classic cocktail stirrers and decorations for those crazy summer BBQs.
For a more classy and refined interior look then select some crockery and china in subtle pastel tones with elegant parrot imagery that will look fabulous as a table setting for a summer party in a light and open dining room or conservatory area.
