READING NOOKS are set to be one of the hottest trends of 2017. These cute and snug areas of the home are specifically designed for curling up with your favourite book and relaxing in a comfortable and stylish space. Reading nooks can be created in almost any room of the home and are perfect for those with smaller homes or limited space. From traditional to ultra modern designs they are perfect for both adults and children alike. Follow these three simple steps to creating the perfect reading nook in your home interior.
Seating
Finding the perfect seating is an essential element of a stylish reading nook. Opt for a style, shape and size that suit your chosen space but above all else ensure that your chosen seat is comfortable and cosy. For a traditional library style reading look then select a classic leather or upholstered armchair with a squishy high back rest that is perfect for ensuring ergonomic support for long reading sessions. If you have limited space then insert a bench style seating area in a bay window, alcove or under stair area and adorn with a foam seat pad a selection of cushions in your chosen style and colour scheme. For a fun child friendly reading nook then why not create a tee pee or wigwam style tented space and fill with bean bags and cushions where you child can escape into a fairytale land or swashbuckling pirate tale.
Storage
You cannot have a successful reading nook without a selection of storage areas for your book or comic collections. Traditional floor to ceiling oak or mahogany bookshelves will create a classic and masculine look in the corner of a bedroom, study or living room area. For a modern look include some floating shelves that can be displayed behind your chosen seating area for a sleek and contemporary finish. Window seats can be furnished with hidden drawers within the bench area that are ideal for tucking away a selection of reading materials or a cosy throw to wrap up during the colder months. Under stair areas and alcove nooks can be accessorised with internal shelving and cupboard space that is functional and practical and will create a visual focal point within the room.
Lighting
Reading under poor lighting is not much fun so it is important to ensure that you have a sufficiently illuminated area in which to locate your reading nook. If you prefer to read in the daytime hours under natural night then window seats are a perfect choice for you. Locate your seat or bench right next to or beneath your chosen window and ensure that you have a blind or curtain available to prevent any strong sunlight from affecting your reading. Darker and more shaded areas of the home can be illuminated with carefully selected lighting options to suit your chosen space. Spot lights are great for alcove or under stair nooks as the can be angled in specific directions for the perfect reading conditions. More traditional reading nooks with single armchairs can be illuminated with a classic floor lamp with an overhanging arm or simple shade depending on your style and requirements.
