With the release of Marvel’s latest blockbuster ‘Avengers – Age of Ultron’ we are delving into the world of fantasy style and comic book designs with a selection of superhero interior ideas. Whether you are 5 or 105 there is a selection of superhero inspired interior items and accessories that will transform any home into a fun and fashionable comic book haven.
Wall coverings
There is no better way to add drama, detail and colour to a feature wall than with a bold and striking wallpaper or mural that will create the central theme of the entire room. For a more classic nod to superhero characters then choose simple monochrome wallpaper in a comic strip design featuring your favourite characters or storyline and create a detailed focal point that tells a story as well as adding visual texture to your home. This type of wallpaper looks fabulous in contemporary black white and grey interiors and can be uplifted with a pop of red, blue or neon accessories for a fresh and vibrant look. For a more modern and updated nod to superhero characters then select a large wall mural that will create an eye-catching blast of colour on a main feature wall. Select themes such as Avengers, X-Men, Superman or Spiderman and co-ordinate your furniture and accessories in similar bright colour schemes or simple crisp white for a more subtle interior style.
Furniture
If your furniture is looking a little worse for wear then why not give it a new lease of life by creating a superhero themed, up-cycled item that is personalised and hand finished. Select some old wooden dining chairs and paint in bold and vivid colours featuring your favourite superhero quotes or character or create a matching set of chairs each with a different character such as hulk, iron man and Wonder woman for your very own ‘assemblage’ of superheroes.
For a simple and modern look on your chests of drawers, wardrobes or even table tops then select some posters of superhero characters or some pages from your favourite comics (preferably not the valuable ones) and layer them in random designs on your drawer, door fronts and table tops for a unique and stylish look. Finish this design with a co-ordinating paint finish and a coat of varnish to seal the paper and prevent damage to the surface.
Fabrics
Fabrics are a great way of creating texture and pattern in your home interior and can be used to introduce a theme or colour into your current interior decor. Superhero fabrics are readily available on the high street this season with a vast selection of cushions, curtains and rugs available featuring your favourite characters and stories. Bedding sets are great for children’s and teenagers bedrooms and can be styled to suit both girl’s and boy’s bedroom designs.
For a sleek contemporary living room area select sophisticated pewter, black and white colour schemes and add a statement circular rug in the design of Captain America’s shield for a zoned area of colour and a modern cultural reference. When selecting cushions choose the logo designs of your favourite superheroes such as batman and superman or opt for more traditional comic book imagery with ‘crash’, ‘bang’ and ‘pow’ slogan cushions. If you truly want to make a statement then re-upholster an occasional chair or sofa with some fun and funky comic strip fabric and partner with a matt black framework for a balance of retro and contemporary design features.
Accessories
No home is complete without a scattering of accessories that provide a simple and cost effective way to update a current interior design. A selection of wall art or a statement clock can make a huge visual impact on a plain feature wall and looks particularly striking above a fire place, sofa or head board for maximum impact. Select themed clocks associated with your favourite character or frame a series of classic or modern comic strip posters and hang in a linear or group arrangement on the wall.
If you collect superhero figures then show them off on a floating shelf or in a funky glass display cabinet where they can be kept safe but still be appreciated. Comic book collections can also be displayed in a slim or large bookcase for added visual style. Try and find as many unique and quirky items as possible that will provide a talking point within your chosen space, I have fallen in love with this fabulous Wonder Woman food mixer that will look great in a retro kitchen diner.
