It’s a new year and time to take a look at some of the trends that are set to take the interior design world by storm in 2018. These trends vary from natural and elegant designs to bold and glamorous so there is sure to be a specific theme that will catch your eye!
Wabi Sabi
Wabi Sabi or ‘The Art of Imperfection’ is a new way in which you can design your home. This look is about finding beauty in imperfection and excepting the natural cycle of life. Authenticity and simplicity are key to this look with accessories and furniture that make the most of cracks, flaws and wear and tear instead of disguising them. Minimalise your room and pare down your items to those with a story of the people who live in your home and those that have nostalgic beauty rather that fresh and crisp finishes.
Preppy
This look is a mix and match of vintage and college style interior design. Use neutral and cosy colour tones such as cream, mocha, chocolate and red across the room and team with vintage oak, mahogany, painted or up-cycled furniture items such as coffee tables and bookcases. Include sofas and armchairs in rich chocolate leather and accessorise the room with old period books, framed letters and newspapers and vintage photo frames.
Mix and Match Kitchens
This year kitchens are moving away from sleek and minimal designs to more visually diverse mix and match styles that can be used to bring together a variety of colours and styles within one visual space. You can combine modern high gloss cupboards with vintage or industrial accessories and lighting in copper or brass finishes or accessories a classic rustic oak kitchen with modern kettles, toasters and bar stools for a striking visual finish. Alternatively why not mix and match the style or colour of your cupboard doors for an artistic kitchen look.
1970s Glamour
Bring a bit of disco inspired opulence into your home this season with a glamorous 1970s home interior. Team classic seventies colour schemes featuring beige, brown, mustard and orange with rich and luxurious gold accessories that will create shimmer and shine within your interior space. Adorn a chocolate leather sofa with gold lame cushions and include some bold 1970s geometric curtains or sleek gold satin drapes for a flamboyant interior finish.
Nomadic
This interior design is perfect for creating a laid back and relaxed feel in your chosen interior space. Opt for calm yet cosy colour palettes featuring off white, biscuit, brown and earthen colour schemes that will create a welcoming feel in your home. Choose bohemian style fabrics such as tribal patterns and prints and use across your curtains, bedding, cushions, throws and rugs to create areas of visual interest within the room. Accessorise the room with items and collectables that have been collected on your travels such as African masks and totems, photographs, sculptures and lanterns that will look great displayed at strategic points around the room.
