This year co-ordination and streamlining are making way for MIX AND MATCH KITCHENS that showcase a variety of colours, finishes and materials to create visual impact within your interior space. From combining modern and traditional oak cupboards to creating a space that can change from day to night, this style of kitchen is sure to create a designer feel within your home.
The Old with the New
With so many fabulous kitchen designs to choose from these days, it can be hard to decide which style to opt for. Do you choose a rustic furniture style wooden kitchen or a sleek and modern high gloss design? Well, why not combine both styles in one space to create a mix and match design that brings the best of both worlds into your home interior. If you love the sleek finish of high gloss cupboards then why not add a chunky wooden worktop that will contrast with the man-made cupboard doors and create warmth against a sleek black and white or bold coloured room. If you prefer your units in a traditional wooden farmhouse interior style then add variation with high gloss, chrome or mirrored splashbacks and tiles that will perfectly tie together the old with the new.
Bold and Natural
One of the easiest ways to try your hand at a mix and match kitchen design is with colour. By combining bold bright or deep and dark colours with light and neutral tones you can create a real statement across your kitchen walls, floors and units. A crisp white or cream kitchen can be given a burst of colour with some primary or neon coloured splashbacks or flooring that will create a focal point within the room. Alternatively, why not choose alternating coloured doors and drawer front or different coloured upper and lower units in a selection of bold and neutral hues. If you love a shabby chic style kitchen interior then paint your cupboards in a selection of mint, pink and baby blues hues and team with a natural oak furniture worktop for a mix and match of colours and finishes,
Night and Day
Kitchens are progressively becoming the favoured space to entertain within the home. With a range of stylish kitchen islands and breakfast bars available they are the perfect space for cooking with the family or enjoying a drink with friends. Why not create a kitchen area that is calm and relaxed in the day for everyday cooking and preparation but springs to life at night to wow your friends and family. Opt for a simple monochrome kitchen with high gloss or painted units and team with shimmering granite or compacted glitter worktops and splashbacks that will contrast against the neutrality of the cupboards.
Display traditional or industrial lighting hung above an island or in a central position in the room to bring together elements of modern and traditional design. Finally add some neon or pastel coloured strip lighting underneath the cupboards, along the edges of the floor and around the edge of your island or breakfast bar that can be switched on at night for a colourful yet relaxed, bar-style finish.
