The autumn winter months are the perfect time to create a cosy and snug interior space in which to curl up and relax on the darker nights. Cosy rooms can often feel a little stuffy and old-fashioned therefore this season is all about creating MODERN COMFORT in your home to reflect the changing styles of the interior world. This look includes cosy fabrics and upholstery as well as modern colour schemes and furniture items to create an enveloping space that is welcoming and inviting.
Opt for colour schemes that are rich and warm or alternatively select a Nordic colour palette that is bright and crisp yet still maintains a snug interior ambiance. Cosy cream, beige and biscuit tones can be teamed with burnt orange, red or mustard yellow to create a colourful and cosy feel in any room of the home. This particular colour palette can be used in traditional homes but can also be used in modern interior spaces with a slight adjustment in the ratio of colour and the patterns and prints you choose to accompany them. Use creams and neutral tones as your base colour and paint a single feature wall in your accent tone; you could also use the colour choice across the accessories instead of your walls. Instead of using classic tartan and hounds tooth patterns that are favoured this time of year why not opt for geometric prints that will create an eye-catching feature across your wallpaper, cushions, bedding or rugs and will work well with a modern cosy look. Stick with traditional oak or cream painted furniture items that will compliment your colour choice and maintain a welcoming feel within your home.
If you prefer a more Scandinavian inspired interior design then choose cool and calm glacial style colour palettes featuring soft white, tonal greys and ice blues that will look wonderful across your feature walls. You can also include a grey, blue and metallic silver wallpaper which will create an eye-catching feature on a main wall, chimney breast or alcove space and will add elements of reflective luxury within your cosy room. When selecting your soft furnishings and upholstery stick to tactile and textural fabrics such as velvet and faux fur that will look wonderful scattered along a sofa or bed area. Choose simple striped patterned cushions that can be teamed with cute arctic fox, hare and woodland animal designs that will look great alongside the faux fur designs. A large velvet throw will look great on your sofa or laid across the base of the bed to create a snuggly and cosy feel within your home interior. Select crisp white ,grey painted or smoked oak furniture items that will compliment the Scandinavian feel of your room and create a perfect balance of colour and functionality.
The key to any cosy look is balancing rich colours and textural fabrics to create a space that is perfect for feeling warm and relaxed. You can mix and match these two distinct interior themes in regards to colour, fabrics and accessories or tailor them around your current furniture choices to accommodate them into your home.
