More is more this season! Gone are the sleek and minimal interiors of the previous seasons and instead they are replaced by ‘strategic clutter’ which can be co-ordinated or mixed and matched to create an interior space that is filled with the brim with items, furniture and accessories. This look is not about making your interior spaces messy but is about filling them with character and detail that works in your specific interior design.
Vintage style homes work extremely well with this look as they can be filled and layered with a multitude of patterns and accessories that will create visual detail within the room. Why not paste alternate walls with varying style of retro wallpaper featuring lots of colours and shapes and layer with vintage frames, mirrors and pictures. A plain vintage sofa can be layered with a selection of patterned cushions and include varying textures and materials for added mix and match designs. Fill a sideboard with a selection of ornaments and accessories such as lamps, collectibles, vases and bowls to create a condensed area of detail within your chosen room. Patterned carpet can be given a finishing touch with a contrasting vintage patterned or Persian rugs for a shabby chic inspired look.
amalfi coast cushions, Scandinavian style interiors are still a hot trend as we move towards 2019 and are a perfect scene to experiment with this look. Once again you can select some mix and matches of wallpaper designs such as using a leaf or fair isle pattern on your main walls and then a branch effect design on a main feature wall or chimney breast. Create a plethora of patterns and textures on a bed or sofa will create a visual focal point within the room. Layer fair isle, stripes and foliage patterns and team with knitted and faux fur cushions, throws and rugs to create a mix and match of finishes. You can mix and match your accessories and create a grouped area of collectibles that create an artistic area within your room. Select some Scandinavian wooden lanterns and group together with ornaments featuring woodland creatures and Nordic patterned chinaware and mix with contemporary sculptures, wall art and chrome or sleek white stag heads that are sure to create visual impact within your home.
The key to creating a stylish look is to not be afraid to keep adding to the layers within the room. Instead of scattering items around your entire room where you run the risk of your home looking cluttered and messy, instead contain your mix and match of items to a specific area of the room such as a sleeping area, a seating area or the space surrounding a fireplace or sideboard. Don’t forget that you can also create visual detail by selecting varying styles, shapes and designs of furniture that will create texture and character within your chosen room.
