For me an interior space does not quite look complete without a splash or pattern and print on a feature wall or soft furnishings. Pattern can be added in a variety of different ways from classic wallpaper to cushions and upholstery. This season however PATTERENED CEILINGS are set to be a huge trend across the interior design world and will create an eye-catching feature in both bold and minimal interior spaces. This versatile feature can be created in numerous ways to suit your tastes and interior style.
Wallpaper
Wallpaper on a ceiling? Yes you heard correctly! Wallpaper does not have to be confined to a feature wall it can also be used to add colour, pattern and decoration to your ceiling areas. If you have a plain white interior space then why not include some monochrome wallpaper in bold geometric patterns, stripes or chevrons that will create visual detail within the room. For a more bold and bright interior design then select some retro style wallpaper in bright and vibrant colours that will update a vintage interior look. Wallpapered ceilings can also be used to update a children’s bedroom or playroom, featuring cloud, star or planet patterns to create a magical feel within their room.
Stencils, Paint and Mouldings
If you are feeling particularly artistic then why not try your hand at some stencilling that will create a variety of patterns and designs on your ceiling areas. For a classic and elegant design then opt for some scroll or floral stencils that can be used to accentuate the edge of your ceiling areas and partner with moulded coving and ceiling roses for a period style elegance and style. Alternatively why not hire a mural artist who can paint a scene on your ceilings that is reminiscent of luxury stately homes. You could opt for a landscape, sky scene or even an elaborate renaissance style scene featuring cherubs, clouds and battles.
Beams
One of the most simple and effective ways to create a patterned ceiling area is using beams to create a visual focal point within the room. If you have a rural or cottage style home then there is a good chance that beams will be and original feature in your home but if not there of plenty of ways to create the look of old beams using reclaimed railway sleepers or beams re-cycled from another home. If you are lucky enough to have a home with high or vaulted ceilings, such as those that are usually featured in a barn or church conversion then you can create pattern using a variety of beams, arches and trestles across the ceiling space that can be kept in their natural wooden form for a striking contrast or painted in soft white, cream or grey for a more subtle interior look.
