Sometimes we can get stuck in a rut with our interior ideas and our homes can become a little lacklustre and boring so why not try out the latest PLAYFUL interior trend that incorporates fun colour combinations and quirky accessories to create a unique interior design. By mixing and matching styles and finishes you can create a distinctive look that is tailored to your home.
Be adventurous with your colour combinations and don’t be afraid to mix and match hues that you would not normally put together. Dusky or pastel pink can be partnered with primary red or fuchsia; creating a bright yet feminine interior design. Crisp white and pale blue can be teamed with bright emerald green or bold purple for a twist on an eastern interior look. A chic monochrome interior can be given a fun spin with some bright and eye-catching wallpaper in bold colours and geometric or retro patterns that will look great in any room of the home. Another of this season’s big trends is animal inspired wallpaper. Hares, squirrels and foxes are the popular choice for the autumn/winter season and are sure to create a playful feel in both traditional and contemporary home interiors.
This look is all about mixing up your household items and accessories to create a varied look that plays on traditional looks and finishes. Don’t be scared to mix your prints and patterns across your soft furnishings. Varying your patterns but keeping them on the same colour palette is a great way of adopting this look without making your room look cluttered. Choose a simple colour combination such as cream and pastels, white and primary colours or monochrome and display curtains, cushions, bedding and rugs in a range of patterns. Place floral fabric with stripes or retro prints, add geometric patterned cushions to a baroque style bedding set or add photographic cushions alongside traditional embroidered designs for a mix of the old and the new. You can also mix your textures by combining satin and velvet with course cotton and linen and adding soft faux furs and hides for a truly diverse and tactile finish.
Combining styles and finishes around your chosen room will create visual variation around your interior space. Opt for traditional oak furniture in rugged and rustic finishes and team with clean painted furniture or modern high gloss designs for a fun and playful combination of modern and classic style. Also don’t be afraid to showcase the same furniture style in a variety of colour combinations. Place black and white French furniture in the same space or display cream, white and grey painted furniture together for a cosy, shabby chic style finish. Add accessories such as French or Italian chandeliers and team with retro floor lamps or modern wall sconces and mix classically elegant candlesticks with natural oak photo frames or abstract canvases for a perfect blend of styles and finishes.
