PREPPY interior design is another of 2018s hottest trends and this versatile and cosy look is set to be a popular choice in both modern and traditional home interiors. This look perfectly combines industrial urban furniture and up-cycled items with preparatory school inspired bookshelves, armchairs and artwork to create a cosy and welcoming space that is stylish and functional.
Select furniture that has texture and character and display a mix and match of styles and finishes. Whitewashed wood furniture with industrial metal frames and accents will look great against a plain wood, exposed brick or wallpapered backdrop and will create a stylish feature within your chosen room. Up-cycled furniture also works well in this style of interior with a range of painted, natural and waxed finishes creating visual impact within the home. Choose items with a modern shape but traditional finishes or display a varied selection of oak, painted and mahogany items for a quirky and lived in feel. Chunky oak or mahogany furniture gives a period feel to your interior space and can be given an urban twist with industrial metal drawer and door handles or ornamentation.
A preppy interior should include a large central bookshelf with a varied collection of old and modern literature. You can also buy sleeves for your more unsightly books that will transform them to look like old classics and period editions. Opt for a large and wide bookcase for a main feature wall or tall and narrow designs that can fit snugly into an alcove area; perfect for those with limited space. If you have a larger interior area then you could also include a classic bookshelf ladder for a traditional library inspired look.
Add some warm and cosy upholstery to your seating areas or bed using classic fabrics and designs that will balance the modern urban feel of your furniture selection. Plaid and tartan make a great addition to a chesterfield style sofa, armchair or headboard and can be paired with a tartan rug to complete your interior space. Next to your bed or seating area you can display a large metal floor lamp in brass or copper finishes or a more period inspired fringed lamp shade with a wooden base for a cosy and welcoming ambiance
When selecting artwork for your walls opt for framed handwritten letters, newspaper articles or book pages that can be displayed in black and white or aged sepia finishes and finished with a mix and match of wooden and metal frames. For a more modern twist include some art work that includes quotes from your favourite books and literary characters that will look great hung in a gallery formation on a main feature wall. To complete the room, accessorise the space with some traditional globes and stationary sets which will look great in an office or living room interior.
