Being environmentally friendly is a hot topic in the interior design word at the moment. More and more designers and high street stores are starting to become more aware of the needs of their customers and are jumping on board with sustainable products that ensure that we are not wasting valuable resources. RECYCLED KITCHENS are all that everyone is talking about in 2019 with a wide variety of companies choosing to protect the forests by using only sustainably sourced wood or even recycling old kitchen units and doors and transforming them into something new and stylish.
Oak kitchens were some of the first designs to become sustainable and environmentally friendly with most of the North American forests now being completely sustainable without the need for deforestation. Simple oak cabinets can look amazing in a simple varnished or oiled finish, while more modern smoked oak designs will give a lighter and more airy finish that looks great with a crisp white backdrop. The beauty of sustainable oak kitchens is that you can also paint the exteriors in a wide variety of finishes that creates a subtle pastel or bold and vibrant finish in both modern and traditional kitchen areas. You could keep the theme running with some reclaimed wooden flooring that can be waxed or stained to your desired finish to create a cosy feel in your kitchen interior.
Glass is now becoming the new favoured material in sustainable kitchen interiors as this versatile material can be readily recycled and transformed into a variety of finishes within your kitchen interior. Crushed glass makes a perfect choice for tiling and can come in a wide variety of colours, particularly rich emerald green that is created using recycled wine and beer bottles. Clear glass bottles can also be crushed down and set into a resin that makes a great material for worktops and flooring as it is easy to clean and maintain.
Cork was a huge material that found its way into home interiors in 2018 and the trend isn’t stopping there. Many people are now opting for cork tiles and splash backs that are perfect for creating a classic rustic feel in a wooden kitchen interior but also works equally as well in a vintage style kitchen area. Cork flooring is also making a huge comeback and will look great teamed with some painted kitchen cabinets for a mix and match of colours and finishes. You can also include a selection of cork accessories, such as place mats and coaters that will look great on an island or breakfast bar area and look amazing with some brass or rose gold effect toasters, kettles and microwaves to create a traditional interior design with a hint of modern glamour.
