There is nothing more satisfying than walking into a boutique clothing store or department store and seeing all the luxurious finishes and organised stacks of items that create a sleek and sophisticated finish. This season shopping inspired interiors are hitting the interior design world with rooms that replicate the style and luxury of high end stores as well as the quirky vintage style of retro shops.
Boutique clothing stores have a specific layout and colour scheme that draws the eye to specific areas and items within the room. You can replicate this style in your own bedroom or dressing room using fitted wardrobes or open free-hanging spaces where you can create tonal areas of colour using your clothing items themselves. Opt for a neutral white, cream or grey background and group your clothes into colour co-ordinated sections. Grey and black, white and cream, pastels, neon and patterns cam be hung together to create an ombre style effect in the room. Carry on this technique across your other items with a colour co-ordinated shoe rack, tie rack and handbag drawer that create a luxurious and chic finish.
For a classic and elegant period style bedroom, why not display a traditional tailor’s style mannequin in the corner of the room to create a functional and stylish focal point within the room. Sculptural metal mannequins will look great in a modern interior space or opt for upholstered mannequins for a more vintage period style finish. You can leave the mannequins exposed or dress them in the evening with your clothes for the next day for a practical addition to your room. This boutique style look can also be complimented by creating display areas around the room using shopping bags from your favourite stores, perfume bottles and stacks of magazines or add framed fashion magazine front covers to your walls for a stylish and chic focal point.
Shopping style interiors do not have to be confined to bedrooms and dressing room areas, why not extend these looks to your living room or office area with a classic vintage record store style that will make storage much easier within your home. Add filing cabinets to your chosen room where you can organise your vinyl records (by genre, alphabet or band) CDs, movies or games where they can be easily located and stored safely to prevent damage. Place your storage next to your record deck, music player or TV and include a large and comfortable armchair or day bed where you can curl up and listen to your favourite album or watch some classic movies. Add music or movie posters in frames around the room or display a guitar on a large feature wall as a great alternative to traditional wall art. If you are lucky enough to have any signed pictured, collector’s discs or movie memorabilia then display these around the room to create a sophisticated and fun finish.
