As various fashion weeks are being splashed across magazines and websites, many of us are turning our attention to the trends of the home for the coming months. Spring is fast approaching and in fashion it has already arrived, which means we’re biting at the bit to explore the spring home décor trends of 2014.

Whether fashion trends translate into the home, or they’re completely different, spring trends can work exceptionally well all year, especially if you’re looking to fill your home with colour and light. From paint to scatter cushions, let’s take a look at some of the spring trends we love to perfectly compliment your furniture and home in 2014.

Black and white

This particular trend has strutted straight off the catwalk and into our homes; it’s incredibly easy to achieve and will stay relevant all year around. Complimenting pure white with deep, dark black is a very quick and easy way to decorate your home, and can be used within a multitude of different overarching styles.

Whether you’re after a country classic or sharp and modern look, this trend works best with beautifully white furniture teamed with softer black furnishings. If it’s a little overwhelming to commit entirely to the trend, a white sofa with black cushions or white wardrobe in a room with a black quilted bed can look amazing.

Big, bold block colours

Anyone following the award season shows will know that block colours are all the rage for this season’s spring looks, and the same applies to your home. Choosing a bold and startling colour for your rooms has never been more on trend, and it keeps your home looking fresh and summery throughout the year.

This trend works best when it echoes the colour scheme of the room, especially when complimented with simple, wooden furniture. A particularly great look for the underappreciated dining room is the combination of bright emerald greens or a vibrant purple with a long wooden table, which achieves simple but visually stunning results.

Fabulous floral

Spring is on the way, and as such, floral is in! But while you might be reaching for your delicate floral dresses and blouses, it’s worth choosing something a little less delicate for your home. Huge floral designs can make a big statement with very little effort whilst also exuding the joys of spring even when winter comes back around.

Create a feature wall with bold floral patterns and compliment it with choice mirrored furniture. This will ensure that the floral theme is carried throughout the room without being too busy or overwhelming.

Metallic touches

Dresses are adorned with bold metal belts giving otherwise simple, matt looks a much-needed edge. You can use the same technique to brighten up your rooms to a similar effect; copper and brass are very much the metals of choice and can really bring your tired kitchen or living room into 2014.

The more vintage looking the item, the better, and objects such as a traditional brass kettle work really well in a room with a rustic wooden table. It’s these little touches that are so easy and cost effective to implement which can transform an otherwise bland room into something striking and on-trend.

Remember: spring fashion and trends are some of the best annual trends to be applicable all year round. Making small changes across various rooms in your house can be a really cost-effective and evergreen way to keep your house looking fresh and fabulous all year around.
