The last few years have been about feature walls and floors that add colour and pattern to an interior space however 2018 is the year of the STATEMENT CEILING. Adding detail to your ceiling area can update a plain or minimal interior space and create a pop of colour that can be complemented by your cushions, curtains and rugs.
Wallpaper
You may think that wallpaper is only reserved for your walls however statement wallpaper applied to your ceiling will look great in both modern and traditional homes. For a bold and modern home, opt for a geometric pattern or glamorous metallic wallpaper in deep and dark navy and monochrome or bold retro colours for a livelier ceiling design. More traditional homes may benefit from a classic floral wallpaper or rococo style pattern in soft pastel hues or period colour tones that will complement a neutral or bold interior colour scheme.
Paint
Paint is one of the easiest ways to create a statement ceiling in your home interior. If you are not particularly artistic or crafty then you can paint your ceiling in a single statement colour that will create maximum impact in your chosen room. For pattern and print then why not use some masking tape to create stripes, chevrons or geometric patterns or stencils to provide a tile effect finish across your ceiling area. Create a Spanish tile design in blue and white or bold Mediterranean colours to compliment a classic home interior or metallic or neon tile patterns for a modern retro design that will update any minimal interior space.
Mouldings
If you have a period-style home or a traditional interior design then a selection of ceiling mouldings will create style and impact within your chosen room. Ceiling roses are a great way of drawing attention to central ceiling light and can be combined with ornate coving and architrave featuring roses, scrolls or figures that will create a classic Italian feel that works particularly well in a living room, bedroom or dining room. Modern mouldings are more crisp and geometric in design and feature square framing and linear formations that add a designer look to a white, black or bold painted ceiling area.
Beams
For the rustic and rural home interior, beams make a great feature across all rooms of the home. For a classic and rugged look then opt for chunky dark wood beams that look great alongside cream painted walls or if you have a modern cottage design then you can select light oak beams that can be teamed with simple white or pastel coloured walls for a soft and feminine interior feel. Ceiling beams are not just reserved for rustic home interiors. Modern homes can be adorned with chrome or rose gold beams for a splash of glamour and sophistication or brass and copper beams for a hint of industrial loft-inspired style.
