The sun is shining, the school holidays are fast approaching and it’s that time of year when we all escape to the garden for some warmth and peace and quiet. Summer houses are a huge trend for 2017 as they provide a sanctuary where you can relax, work or undertake your hobby with a beautiful view of your outdoor spaces. So why not create a summer house feel in your interior spaces with a selection of decor and accessories that provide a fresh summertime ambiance that lasts all year round.
Start with a neutral background of cream and white and add accents of botanical or bright colours that will create an uplifting ambiance in your chosen room. Pastel mint, peach, lemon and pink will create a soft and feminine feel while more bold reds, orange, blue and purple will add a pop of tropical sunshine to the room. Add some bold floral wallpaper to a main feature wall or alcove space for a chic garden inspired look or for a more fun, beach hut inspired look then select colourful, striped wallpaper that will add visual impact against the neutral background. If you prefer a more textural look in your interior space then why not add some wood cladding to a chimney breast, alcove or statement wall that can be left in a natural or weathered finish or painted in complimentary colours for a bright summertime look.
A combination of natural and colourful, patterned fabrics are perfect for creating a summerhouse inspired look in your chosen room. Select solid oak, beech or rattan style furniture items that can be upholstered in shabby chic style floral fabrics for a quintessential British garden look or bold and bright neon or primary shades in plain, striped or palm leaf patterns. Decorate sofas and beds with a mix and match of plain linen and floral cushions for a classic finish or add a scattering of bold tribal and Moroccan style cushions for a more laid back bohemian style. Add leaf print curtains and rugs for a fresh, garden inspired look or go bold with some candy striped designs that will look fabulous in a minimal or neutral room.
When selecting accessories for your summer house inspired room opt for items that will create a relaxed summertime feel as well as bringing the beauty of the outdoors, indoors.. No summer house theme would be complete without some swathes of bunting in elegant pastel shades that can be hung around windows, archways and mantelpieces to create a stylish visual focal point. Fairy lights will also compliment a summerhouse theme and can be used to decorate a headboard or window area or alternatively why not choose some wooden or painted metal storm lanterns that will create an illuminating visual focal point on a side table or grouped together to form a centrepiece on a sideboard or dining table area.
