Typography is set to be one of the biggest interior trends in 2016 with artwork, accessories and decor making a real statement using words, fonts and quotes that make a visual impact in your chosen interior space. The use of words to create style and flair in your home is a truly versatile technique as you can tailor your choice of phrase and language to your own personal tastes.
Wall art is a great way of using this trend in your home as it requires no messy redecoration and relatively little strain on your purse! Monochrome canvases or framed designs look amazing as they stand out against a plain feature wall and create a strong statement that works particularly well with single words or quotes. Add gold or silver metallic writing for added glamour or bold neon words for a more fun and funky finish. You can select modern phrases such as ‘OMG’, ‘Totes’ or ‘More Issues Than Vogue’ or simple classic words such as ‘Love’, ‘Family’ and ‘Home’ in more period style fonts that give a more subtle and stylish look.
Typographical cushions are huge on the high street this season with a wide range of colours, patterns and phrases available across the stores. For an injection of summertime colour in your interior space then opt for funky, retro tie dye cushions with phrases such as ‘Happy’, ‘Hippy Days’ or ‘Festival Life’ or bold sunny tones such as yellow, peach, orange and blue with beach inspired phrases such as ‘Surfs Up’, ‘Walking On Sunshine’ and ‘Jetsetter’. Single letter cushions are also a hugely popular choice as like Scrabble tiles they can be arranged to spell your name or favourite word or can be used to represent the initials of your family for a fun yet eye-catching look.
If you want to create a bright and illuminating statement with a hint of glamour then why not select some bold letter shaped box lights that will look fabulous on a mantelpiece, sideboard, shelf or alcove area. These fun lights can be used individually on a bedside to represent you and your partners initials or alternatively they can be used in a group formation to spell out your family name or words such as ‘Fun’, ‘Love’, ‘Meh’ or ‘Shine’ for a more striking visual focal point that works particularly well in contemporary homes or glamorous Hollywood inspired bedroom or dressing room areas.
Wallpaper is the perfect way to use typography in your home interior as it creates a striking focal point that works really well in minimal or colourful contemporary homes as well as classically elegant rooms with a more period style of design. Bold monochrome wallpaper featuring graffiti style writing will look great on a large feature wall and sits comfortably in a loft style apartment or a modern bedroom for a sleek and cool design. For a more refined style then select soft beige or pastel wallpaper that features elegant and curvaceous calligraphy style writing with script from a famous film, novel or even Latin phrases to give a chic and sophisticated finish.
Alphabet inspired accessories are a great way of adding visual detail and on trend style to your home and give a personal touch to your chosen interior space. For a fun and funky dinner table setting select lettered plates featuring the initials of your family members or friends and or opt for a selection of tea cups, coffee mugs or wine glasses with letters, words or humorous phrases such as ‘There’s Nothing Like A Nice Mug of Prosecco’ or ‘Wine o Clock’ that will keep your friends and family amused at dinner parties and get-togethers. Add a selection of typographical candles, wooden plaques or coasters for a stylish finishing touch to your chosen room.
